The lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community make up about 10 percent of the population who may experience barriers to care and healthcare professional discrimination, personal attitudes, and perceptions. Cancer issues in the LGBT community include: more likely to smoke than general population, not having a Pap smear, less likely to have a mammography, more likely exposure to hepatitis B virus infection, and increased likelihood of some types of cancer—even AIDS-related cancers. To discuss these sensitive and pertinent issues, my guests will be Myrna Duarte from the American Cancer Society, and cancer survivor Richard Heimler.
