Our children and grandchildren are so precious to us. Unfortunately, according to the CDC, approximately one in every 33 babies is born in the U.S. with a birth defect. Birth defects are one of the leading causes of infant deaths, accounting for more than 20% of all infant deaths. My guest, Betty Mekdeci, is the founder and director of Birth Defect Research for Children, a national birth defect information clearinghouse and research organization started in 1982. BDRC researches the environmental causes of birth defects. This includes the health effects of chemicals such as Arsenic. Would you expect that to be an ingredient in our cosmetics? You’d be surprised. (www.birthdefects.org)
