Midlife is not a crisis….it’s an opportunity!
For women, midlife is a time of change… our bodies are changing, our families are changing as children leave home, marriages end, our parents become ill or pass away. The familiar roles are shifting and setting the stage for a new you. As midlife women, we start to question… Who am I? What do I want? What is my life purpose? What is important to me? How do I want to spend the second half of my life? These questions are perfectly normal….and midlife is the perfect time to answer them.
The midlife transition for women is a normal and natural process. The hormones that were once causing us to put others first, are subsiding. This can create a surge of energy, creativity, and determination. It can also leave us feeling lost, confused and not knowing which way to turn. At midlife, we have the opportunity to re-evaluate our roles, reinvent ourselves, and make new choices. My question to you is… would you like to embrace this opportunity and start creating the second life of your dreams?
I was in my mid 40’s when I found myself questioning my roles and the choices I was making. At the time, I was self employed as a real estate agent, making good money, had a beautiful family, and by all accounts looked successful. However, I started getting this nagging feeling that something was missing, and it just wouldn’t go away. I began questioning my goals, and resenting that I was working so hard in a business that I wasn’t passionate about. I felt burned out, tired, and knew I needed a change, but I didn’t know what to do. As a spiritual person, I knew that this meant I needed to pause and take a good look inside. I alsostarted researching and discovered that the midlife transition is a natural developmental stage, just like adolescence. That midlife is not something women have to go through quietly with the help of wine and Botox. No! Midlife is a powerful time that allows us to finally let go of past hurts and limiting beliefs, and fully embrace our True Self!
I realized that I had to make some changes – I let go of my real estate career to go back to a business that was more purposeful and fulfilling. I also let go of a marriage that was not good for me. This transition, which I am still in, has been scary at times, but it has also been deeply gratifying. Today, I have a successful life coaching practice, and love speaking to other midlife women about this amazing journey. I am having fun, living my dream, and waking up each day passionate and excited about what life has in store.
