TERRI CORCORAN: WIFE OF A DEMENTIA PATIENT AND BOARD MEMBER OF WELL SPOUSE
Terri’s story from my book: Understanding with Compassion: Help for Loved Ones and Caregivers of a Brain Illness Patient: “My husband is severely impaired cognitively and physically by a genetic condition similar to Alzheimer’s in that it attacks the brain. He has had this illness for our whole eleven-year marriage, although I was unaware at the beginning that anything was wrong until things got worse and worse. He says very little, and can’t do very much. But once in a while, I do get my miracles by God’s grace and lots of prayer. I love him with all of my heart and know he loves me, because one of the very few things he will ever say to me is: ‘I love you.’” Terri is on the board of the Well Spouse Association, which educates health care professionals and the general public about the special challenges and unique issues “well” spouses face every day.
